HISTORY

OUR COLLECTIVE JOURNEY [incomplete below; still being revised]
The Pilipino Council of The Mabuhay Collective (PCMC) as it is known today was officially institutionalized in the academic year of 2009-2010 at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). This coalition-council entity was formed for the purposes of overseeing, representing, serving and uniting all UCLA Pilipinx organizations (i.e. the UCLA Mabuhay Collective) regardless of size and influence and bridging them  together via general members to build one cohesive, empowered, cultural, student community. To date, there are 15 Pilipinx student organizations part of the UCLA Mabuhay Collective (the Pilipinx and Pilipinx-American population at UCLA) officially recognized by the 16th umbrella entity, the Pilipino Council aka PCMC.

BEFORE THE COLLECTIVE

"Era of the Growth"

"PRECURSOR ERA" [PRE-2009]
The concept of a "Pilipino Collective" has been a circulating theme within the UCLA student body for decades prior to PCMC's formalization. The first Pilipino Welcome Reception (PWR) - one of the initial, historic inter-Pilipinx-organization collaborations at UCLA - was introduced by and conducted in collaboration with the first Pilipino Undergraduate Students Association Council (USAC) President, Mark Pulido, in the year of 1992. In that same year, the Kasamahang Council proposal was introduced by the historic Pilipino Mother Organization, Samahang Pilipino, in an attempt to unite all Pilipinx organizations under its leadership via its "One Family" principle. Although, this came with robust scrutiny with other non-Samahang-Pilipino entities at the time rejecting the idea of falling directly under the leadership and oversight of the Mother Organization alone. Ultimately, this attempt at unification failed to gain community consensus and remained simply as an idea. The many consecutive years prior to 2009, a more informal entity consolidated with the name of the "UCLA Barangay" through the collaboration of the precursor Senators, then precursor External Representatives, of active Pilipinx organizations of the time... {TBA}

INSTITUTIONALIZATION
"Era of the Board of Representatives"

"FOUNDING ERA" [2009-2011]
By 2009, this informal coalition was formally institutionalized into a collective entity bearing the name of the "Mabuhay Collective" decided by then liaisons of each involved Pilipinx organization, and these efforts were primarily spearheaded by then Samahang Pilipino External Vice President, JC De Vera. This newly-consolidated entity established the first External Board of Representatives (now Senate) where power and representation concerning Pilipino populations were collectively derived from the whole community rather than solely from one driving entity which at the time was, justifiably, Samahang Pilipino. The students involved who held the "external" positions in their respective Pilipinx organization executive boards (i.e. External Vice President, External Assistant Director, Liaison, Representative, Ambassador, etc) became the Founders and constituted the inaugural Mabuhay Collective Board of Representatives. At the time, the Mabuhay Collective Executive Board (MCEB) did not exist and would not be introduced until the Second Reformed Era, so leadership was primarily spearheaded collectively by the External Representatives guided by Samahang Pilipino... {TBA}

FIRST REFORMATION

"FIRST REFORMED ERA" [2011-2019]

SECOND REFORMATION
"Era of Revitalization"

"SECOND REFORMED ERA" [2019-2021]

THIRD REFORMATION
"Era of the Pilipino Council"

"THIRD REFORMED ERA" [2021-PRESENT]
While the Second Reformed Era and first MCEB provided a very necessary organizational foundation to the Mabuhay Collective, the new structure was still in its infancy and at risk of destabilizing once again. And unfortunately, this was the case. At the conclusion of the first MCEB term, there were issues in sustaining the wellbeing of the Executive Board component itself as no student initially ran to be the next Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, or Administrative Assistant. This restructured Mabuhay Collective was at risk of dissolving into an informal space, but this was thankfully thwarted when then Representative of the Pilipino Recruitment and Enrichment Program (PREP) of the 13th Board of Representatives, Gabriel Ordonez, stepped up to run for Chairperson of the MCEB. After unanimous election, Gabriel immediately went to work to restructure the Mabuhay Collective into the contemporary PCMC commencing the Third Reformed Era and de-facto name of the Era of the Pilipino Council.

Realizing that at the center of a successful organization is a strong constitutional backbone, Gabriel immediately began revising the foundation of the entity itself: the former three-pages Guiding Principles. By
 convincing the Board of Representatives to unanimously pass the 11 Special Amendments Provision currently registered in the Constitution and Bill of Progress Bylaws, this document transformed into the now 20+ pages Constitution of The Pilipino Council of The Mabuhay Collective at UCLA with five, newly-authored, detailed constitutional bylaws. From there, Gabriel immediately began work to implement the changes and revisions as efficiently as possible. The "Mabuhay Collective" was renamed to the now "Pilipino Council of The Mabuhay Collective" to better symbolize the role of the entity. The Board of Representatives became the newly reformed Senate of The Mabuhay Collective with a Senator and Associate Senator representative structure for each constituent organization totaling to 30 representatives to-date. The MCEB also restructured into the Cabinet of The Mabuhay Collective with a two-component structure of the Executive Office and Board of Directors totaling to a 16 Cabinet Administrators to date. PCMC's programming was reimagined to officially recognize six different projects as follows: Pilipino Welcome Reception (PWR), Pilipinx American History Month (PAHM) Celebration, Mabuhay Winter Wellness (MabuWellness), Mabuhay Benefit Festival (MabuFest), Mabuhay Formal (MabuFormal), and Pilipino Farewell Reception (PFR).

Currently, Gabriel Ordonez and Malakai Espinosa are recognized as the contemporary Founders of the new council entity, and all current MCEB members comprising the 11th and 12th Cabinet Branch are the inaugural Cabinet board members of PCMC as of the Third Reformed Era. Going forward, the new Cabinet's priorities include holistically revising
the mission and vision of the entity, ensuring sustainability is emphasized for the adequate succession of leadership each subsequent academic year, and building an immense precedent as the advisory and bridging entity for the many student Pilipinx-based organizations at UCLA... {TBA}
