OUR STORY
The Pilipino Council of the Mabuhay Collective (PCMC) was founded in 2009, created with the purpose of uniting and bringing representation to the 15 different Pilipino-led student organizations on UCLA’s campus, called the Mabuhay Collective. Since its inception, the PCMC has successfully brought unification to the community through extensive programming and Senate conferences. Our programming has brought students into our community, raised money for charities in the Philippines, increased the cultural awareness of the wider UCLA community, and more. Our Senate conferences have led to increased development of each individual organization and positive change within the community as a whole. |
CONSTITUENTS
PCMC is a council of 15 Pilipino-based organizations at and beyond UCLA en masse known as the Mabuhay Collective. The member organizations called constituents cover a wide background of topics, each of which specializing within a particular niche in the Pilipino community. In other words, there is an organization in the PCMC for any Pilipino-identifying student's particular interests.

MISSION The mission of the PCMC is to be an active voice of the Pilipinx community at UCLA and beyond, creating events and programming that unites and celebrates the community, as well as conducting formal Senate conferences that bring all of the organizations together to discuss the state of the community and where improvements can be made. This wide-reaching community that we facilitate for encompasses well over 900 students that participate in these organizations, with different missions and goals surrounding topics of political advocacy, cultural representation, LGBTQ+ representation, STEM, law, medicine, and many more. We aim to represent all of these organizations equally with no bias towards religion or political affiliation. |
VISION The PCMC envisions a culturally enriched Pilipinx-community that is cohesive and inclusive across all ideologies, religious backgrounds, and interests. We look towards a future where the PCMC can serve as a foundation for the community and its continuous upbringing, not only serving the UCLA Pilipinx community but the wider Pilipinx community in Los Angeles and beyond. |
PROJECTS
PCMC has a few staple events that occur on a yearly basis, directed to fulfill our organization’s mission:
|
Pilipino Welcome Reception (PWR) PWR is an event that happens at the beginning of every academic year that brings in new college freshmen and transfer students, allowing them to explore the Pilipinx community at UCLA through presentations from each of the 15 PIlipinx organizations that are represented by the PCMC. This event consistently brings in over 400+ students annually, many of which actually end up joining the organizations of the Mabuhay Collective. |
Pilipino-American History Month (PAHM) PAHM is a month-long celebration that begins with a social media campaign that interviews important Pilipinx figures in the Los Angeles community, informs students about Pilipinx heritage and culture in Los Angeles, and celebrates cultural traditions, food, businesses etc. At the end of the month is a Palengke Festival, which brings in small Pilipinx businesses to come sell their products to the entire UCLA community, feature song and dance performances from Pilipinx-identifying dance troupes, acapella organizations, and cultural showcasers. |
MabuFest
MabuFest is the PCMC’s annual benefit concert, which features celebrity headliners and talented student performers in a night of music and dance. All proceeds for this event are directly sent to charitable organizations in the Los Angeles and the Philippines, which have historically been such programs as LoveYourself Foundation and Pilipinos for Community Health.
