Tinig, which means “voice” in Tagalog, is a student-initiated, student-run, Pilipinx-American a cappella group at UCLA - a family built on musical and cultural expression. Formed in 1988 under the student direction of August Espiritu and Rex Sampaga, Tinig came together for the purpose of singing the Pilipino and American National anthems in UCLA’s annual Samahang Pilipino Cultural Night (SPCN) and has since grown to share Pilipino culture with not only its members but with the greater UCLA community through song.
