Samahang Pilipino Cultural Night (SPCN) is the annual Pilipino cultural production at UCLA, produced by SPCN Committee and performed by over 200 undergraduates. A result of the cultural and political activism among Pilipino Americans in the 1970s, SPCN held its first production in 1978. The intimate “barrio fiesta” format of the gatherings in the early days, which included traditional food and dance, quickly evolved into an elaborate stage production. Each year, the SPCN production showcases aspects of Pilipinx and Pilipinx-American culture, completed with original music and an original script. SPCN takes pride in being the first student-run cultural night to perform at UCLA's Royce Hall in 1986, paving the way for other student-run productions to do the same.
